BE was all about April Fools’ Day this year. She kept telling me different little stories just to see if I would believe her. So, I told her about poisson d’avril. My father’s family is from France and I studied French for many years. In my high school French class, our teacher would always tell us about poisson d’avril, or April fish. Supposedly, on April Fools’ Day in France, children will stick paper fish to each other’s backs and then yell “poisson d’avril” when the “victims” discover it. I gave BE and BC each their own fish on their backs, and BE made one for me. The kids enjoyed it and it was good “trick” to teach them since it didn’t involve being sneaky or telling lies.
