My “kid” showers

Although the announcement of our adoption didn’t go well initially, most people were very supportive. My family and friends threw me a shower and I was even fortunate enough to have a shower at work. I really appreciated these opportunities to celebrate with everyone and of course, the gifts were very helpful. The kids really needed clothes, they didn’t have many toys, and I don’t think they had any books. And, we got some things that were very helpful, even though I would never have known that we would need them. If you know someone who’s adopting older children, consider giving them a shower; they will likely appreciate the chance to participate in this rite of passage.
