When moms need timeout

We saw our therapist RB again the other week and I told her that I’m overwhelmed with all the work we have to do. I explained that I need just one thing to focus on. We talked about a lot of issues during the session, but her take-away for me concerned my impatience with yelling and whinning. I can’t explain how irritating these behaviors are to me – I definitely have my breaking point. So, RB gave me permission to give myself a timeout in order to avoid getting upset, which often makes the situation worse. I haven’t had much opportunity to try it out yet, but I know it will be difficult. I don’t like fighting and I’d rather get everything resolved as soon as possible rather than walk away. On the other hand, I know that if I can stay calm, it will be better for all of us.
