At the beginning of the year, I read several blog posts about New Year’s resolutions. A number of blogger explained that they were forgoing “resolutions” in favor of “words.” Instead of making a resolution, they chose one or more words that they wanted to focus on this year.
I don’t believe that I’ve ever made a New Year’s resolution, and I’m too much of a cynic to wholeheartedly choose a word for myself. But, I did like the idea, and it did get me thinking about what would be important to me this year.
And, I thought a lot about the word “peace.” I decided that I’d like to spend some time learning more about what peace actually is. So, after the two months, my first big insight is that peace can be achieved in the absence of fear. I certainly want my home to be a place where J, BE, BC, and I all feel safe. I want people to sense a sort of peace when they visit. And, I certainly don’t want anyone to feel afraid here.
So, I’ve been trying to focus on creating a safe place for my kids, and for the adults here too. It’s too soon to tell, but I hope my efforts will be successful.
I think this is beautiful: “peace can be achieved in the absence of fear.”
May 2012 be the year that the peace in your home radiates to the rest of the world.
Thank you, Lori!
