The Boll Family YMCA in Downtown Detroit is beautiful. BE participates in Girls on the Run there and both kids attend the Y’s school break camps. BE was really nervous when I first signed her up for winter break camp. It took a while, but now she really loves going. BC enjoys it as well. All the caregivers do a great job, and have been very helpful. Both kids will be there again this summer, and I know they’ll have a great time. It’s another great resources for those of us raising kids in Detroit.
Last weekend, J and I took the kids to Detroit Puppet Art to see “The Snow Queen.” The organization is located downtown and offers puppet performances, exhibits, and classes. We were able to make reservations, but we should have showed up earlier, because the small theater was packed. The show was beautiful and at just an hour long, it held the kids’ attention. Afterwards, the kids participated in a puppet-making workshop, where they made replicas of the large “Snow Queen” puppet that was used in the show. BE is already asking when we can go back. If you live in the Detroit area, be sure to check it out!
We’re continuing to explore family-friendly places in the city, and last week, we spent some time at the Renaissance Center, and on the Riverfront. Unfortunately, it was raining that day, so we didnt’ spend too much time outside, but the kids enjoyed seeing the river, Hart Plaza, and the Detroit Princess. They also had a great time eating at the Ren Cen, checking out the cars, and riding the People Mover. Here are some photos from our day downtown.
